You can’t make this stuff up. Ready for this?
Some old people in China got upset that their grown children weren’t visiting them often enough. So a bunch of them sued their own children.
They won. China has now imposed new laws stating that grown children are required by law to visit their parents on a “regular basis”. Or else.
The government ordered this woman to visit her mother twice a month plus at least two holidays per year.
The court ruled that Ms. Chu could ask authorities to fine or even detain her daughter and son-in-law if they failed to visit
Isn’t that nice? Nothing like family love and quasi-totalitarian governments. And to think I may be living in this country (or one of its satellites) in a few years. Thank god I’m not a Chinese citizen and my parents don’t live in China. Jesus.
This is going to get much worse before it gets better. Because of their insane one-child policy, you now have millions of homes of just two people supporting four parents, instead of many children supporting two parents like most other societies. This makes things extremely difficult for families to support elderly parents in China.
Map out the math, and it gets even worse. Soon you’ll have two people supporting four parents and as many as eight grandparents. Wow!
China will eventually rule the world, but before that happens, this fundamental economic problem is one of the many hurdles they’re going to have to overcome.
I’ve already got my popcorn. It’s going to be interesting to watch.
