He’s an avowed socialist, which means I probably disagree with the vast majority of political opinions he holds. Regardless, on this issue I’m with him 100%. Moreover, he is demonstrating the best way to protest government evil. Forget about voting, writing your congressman, or staging a protest. The government is too large and entrenched now so none of that stuff works any more. Instead, publicly stop paying your taxes and recruit others to do the same.
Two-time Academy Award–winning actress Emma Thompson may refuse to pay taxes until those implicated in the HSBC tax evasion scandal go to prison, according her husband Greg Wise.
“I am disgusted with [the HM Revenue and Customs]. I am disgusted with HSBC. And I’m not paying a penny more until those evil bastards go to prison,” Wise told the Evening Standard in an interview this week.
And Wise made it clear that Thompson was fully supportive of the proposed boycott. “Em’s on board. She agrees. We’re going to get a load of us together. A movement,” he added.
Oh HELL YES. Go Emma GO!
Just like the Obama administration, the UK government is refusing to prosecute guilty bankers. Eric Holder actively prevented his own prosecutors from going after the bankers. You know, those same bankers who ripped off all of us for the benefit of their ultra-rich buddies.
Yes, they’re evil bastards and yes, they need to go straight to prison.
It’s possible Emma’s husband is just venting anger and that he will eventually crumble and pay his way-too-high European taxes like a good little socialist. But if he’s serious, and backs up his words with actions, he and Emma will become one of my newest heroes (right next to Will Smith and Jada Pinkett).
Short of armed revolution, the only possible way to stop the beast is to stop feeding the beast. That can only be done by either expatriating or by refusing to pay your taxes, especially if you’re a wealthy public figure. Certainly much more effective than protesting or blovating on the internet.
Not that I care. 🙂 Bankers have ruled the world for several centuries now and probably always will.
