The movie (and franchise) I won’t shut up about finally came out…and flopped big time at the box office. While expected to make $24 million on its opening weekend, which was low, it only made $16 million. It’s been out for over two weeks and hasn’t even made its budget back. On a budget of $90… Continue Reading →
An interesting thought experiment today… Last week I watch The Purge: Anarchy. I don’t normally watch horror movies because I think they’re stupid, but both this film and the first Purge movie really aren’t horror regardless of how they’re marketed. They’re more action/thriller movies with a touch of sci-fi. The first Purge movie was forgettable. The… Continue Reading →
I couldn’t keep a smile off my face while watching this. I even tried. Failed. The in-joke of breaking Wesley Snipes out of jail was great. And Harrison Ford’s comment to Jet Li was awesome. (Did you ever expect a movie where Harrison Ford talks to Jet Li while standing in front of Arnold?) Hopefully… Continue Reading →
And for today’s happy moment, we have Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, and Jason Statham standing on a tank. You’re welcome. For today’s unhappy news, Expendables 3 will be rated PG-13. God dammit.
Some good movies so far this year. Very surprising. I think we may have turned a corner in terms of action movies, and a new action renaissance like the 1980s may be upon us. Robocop – No, it’s not as good as the first Robocop, but were you really expecting it to be? This reboot… Continue Reading →
The 1987 Robocop movie pretty much predicted everything accurately. I’ve always thought the same thing, but this was a cool breakdown. – the notion of “singularity. – the dominance of the Ford Taurus – that robots can’t climb stairs – perma-recession – crony capitalism – ruinous public sector unions – that Detroit would become a… Continue Reading →
Hell yeah baby. This trailer was not quite as good as the one they had for Expendables 2, but I’m not complaining. Seeing Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, and Arnold all there, and seeing Snipes there, fresh out of prison…it’s just…awesome.
I recently watched Bridge on the River Kwai, which is a must-see movie if you have not seen it yet. There’s a scene where Alec Guinness (the original Obi Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars films) gives a little speech about how old he is, and how old he feels, and how there are “less… Continue Reading →
My final entry in 2013 movie reviews. Now I can start in on the new movies from this year. Minor spoilers ahead. This Is The End – What happens when six pampered pussy actors get trapped in a house during the apocalypse? This is a bittersweet movie about actors like Seth Rogan, James Franco and Jonah Hill… Continue Reading →
More 2013 movie reviews! Fair warning, minor spoilers ahead. Wolverine – Fantastic. I’m actually looking forward to seeing it a second time to pick up all the details I missed the first time around. Great direction, great cast, great villains (except for one of the female villains who was pretty boring), great classic comic book story… Continue Reading →
